On Sunday 29th June, 6 Explorer Scouts from Worthing attended a County presentation at Cisswood House Hotel in Lower Beeding, Horsham to each receive the Chief Scout's Platinum Award. The reception was attended by 40 Scouts and Explorer Scouts across West Sussex together with their family and friends. 33 Gold awards and 7 Platinum awards were presented by Penny Hardwick, trustee of The Lodge Hill Centre. The Gold award is the highest award in the Scout section and the Platinum award is the next level up for the Explorer Scout section.
The 6 achievers from Worthing were: Amelia Lytton (16), Alexandra Wilton (16), Rachel Drew (16), Lucy Partridge (15), Madeleine Roberts (15) and Bradley Stratton (16). They're all members of Osprey Explorer Sea Scout Unit, based at 8th Worthing Sea Scout Group.
Explorer Scout Leader Paul Chaplain said: "The Chief Scout's Platinum Award is a significant achievement and all of these young people are a credit to themselves, their Unit and their District. To achieve the award they all completed the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh's Award plus additional nights away, international, environment and values requirements. Activities included helping at Beavers and Cubs as a Young Leader, lifeguarding, piano, performing arts, saxophone, acoustic guitar, props, acting, rounders, fitness, hockey, dance, badminton and culminated in a 2 day expedition across the South Downs."
