Gilwell 24

Photos

Ian: I thought Gilwell was very good. I took part in the rifle shooting; that was fun even though I did miss the target too many times. I did the Push ball assault course and beat Alex and Matt, even though they said they would beat Tim and I. Aeroball was a fun sport on trampolines and I beat Tim, Matt and Alex and for some reason we took the sport a bit too seriously, by doing a competition. Robogeddon may have seemed a bit childish but it was actually quite fun as were the fairground rides. The swimming was good, but it was freezing and so I only stayed in there for a short while. The disco seemed pretty boring when I first saw it and the music didn't really seem to impress me. The simulator was fun but I don't know why they had a space roller coaster and western music.

I missed the Quad bikes because they were hidden and the mountain boarding was fully booked. I missed the laser mission Quazar because I slept through it; I went to sleep before the quazar so I would be fresh, due to the fact I didn't hear my alarm go off. But either way I enjoyed the sleep. I also missed climbing because it was too busy and I was too tired

I don't know what I would have liked to see because most of it I liked anyway. I did not stay awake for 24 hours because I accidentally overslept and it was too cold, otherwise I would have stayed up. I went to sleep at about 11:30 and got woken up at 2:30, then fell asleep until 7. I have taken many memories from Gilwell 24. I enjoyed myself a lot and the train journey to York also keeps as a memory. The main memory is finding Aeroball, I played it so much, that I had never found trampolining that fun until that day and ASS was amusing with the ball we nicked.

I would definitely go again because I enjoyed it a lot and would like to try the activities I missed, such as climbing. It has given me a memory of what fun I had.

Annie: I went on the trampolines, the simulator, the disco, the assault course, laser quest, fair ground rides and clay pigeon shooting all were very good.

I missed quad biking because quads wear too small and fishing because it was booked up also I didn't know where survival zone was and would have liked to go on it.

Music zone and a longer disco with more tracks with words.

I stayed up for 24 hours.

I meet lots of new people and I would love to go again.

Amy: Well, I think that they should keep the active stuff out all night because they packed up at around 9 ish and if there were active things to do at night then I would be more inclined to stay up though I understand that the people who ran the active things didn’t want to do it all night. Apart from that it was really good and well planned out!

I took part in the climbing, tree climbing (which was a lot of fun!), the rides (very cool) bungee run, bouncy castle, disco, trampolines, water fight and I met knew people from America which was good. Assault course.

I missed the quad bikes because the queue was too long and they were set up later which meant we looked round for half an hour looking when they were not there. Swimming because it was too cold (me being fussy!) rifle shooting, quasar didn’t sign up in time. Abseiling aero ball because people weren't letting you have a go because no instructors. Competitions because we were doing other things.

Tug of war would be fun.

I went to sleep at about half 12 and woke about 7 so around 6 ½ hours. As I said I would have stayed up if the more active things had been out on during the late night time.

Meeting new people, enjoying the activities, going on the rides for free, being laid back and relaxed as well as it being a thrill and exciting!

Having a laugh with friends, making water bombs and running around with them. Having good friends to hang around with always busy!

Definitely I would do it again and I would do more stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was very fun! Thank you for giving me the opportunity!

Hannah: I took part in the fishing, climbing, laser quest, water rockets, the disco and the 24 aerial photograph and I also had a go on the fairground rides. I also briefly went to a campfire...

The fishing was very good, as I caught a (very small) tench, or something along those lines and met those nice Ohio dudes! The laser quest was also good as I played at 12.40 and I think it was much better in the dark. The disco, of course, was the best of the lot although they didn't have Fall Out Boy which was appalling and one of the worst mistakes a DJ could ever make!!!!

I missed the laser clay pigeon shooting and archery and all those sorts of activities because I wasn't sure if I needed to book them and at what times they started. I didn't go to the gauntlet challenge either as there was no information in the programme as to how many people needed to be in a team and other details. I also missed the sub aqua, which was entirely my fault as I lost track of time, which I would definitely try to correct next year if I am allowed to go...

New activities that I would like to see would be possibly some kind of duck, duck, goose game (tee hee) and something that actually went all through the night, preferably in a nice warm building/tent as I know some people were unable for some reason or another to go into a tent of their own and it would have probably meant that certain people stayed up longer also, maybe some more cinema showings or something.

I nearly stayed awake for 24 hours although I decided that technically after the sun rise the night had finished and therefore I could go to sleep for an hour and a half, but if there had have been a nice warm public building with something to do in open 24 hours (even a cafe) then I would have probably been able to stay up the whole time.

I have taken away some good memories from the trip as there were some extremely nice people, including the guys from Ohio (I am not aware that there were any girls though) and I made a lot of friends and just generally got along with people. I am quite disappointed that I did not stay up all night but I am glad in some ways as I was much more refreshed afterwards. Overall I really enjoyed the camp and the activities I did were enjoyable and the people were interesting.

I would DEFINITELY go again, and now I know exactly what I need and exactly what I don't need I'm sure it will be an even better experience next year.

Keira: I took part in laser quest, robogeddon, the fairground. I thought all the activity's were really fun. I did miss a few but I can always do them next time. I would like to see some model hot air balloon competitions, I would also like to see people sliding on plastic sheets with water on. I made new friends and got a pen pal from Ohio (in America). I will treasure these memories forever and make sure my pen pal is up to date with British scouting news. I would definitely go again as it was so fun I enjoyed every moment of it and I hope my friends go again.
