During Gilwell 24 Graham Haddock,
the National Commissioner for Explorer Scouts, announced that the review
of activity badges across all Sections had been completed and new badges
will be launched in October this year.
The Explorer Scout Section
will see its activity badges double from 14 to 28. The Creative
badge will be split into Creative Arts and Performing Arts. The Mountain
Activities badge will be split into Hill Walking, Climbing, Navigation,
Caving, Skiing and Snow Boarding. There will also be new badges for Activity Centre Service, Athlete, Canoeing,
Motor sports, Mountain Biking, Physical Recreation, Public relations, Quartermaster, Racquet
Sports and Street Sports.
The Emergency Aid badge
will be replaced by a new Emergency Aid staged activity badge. The Nights
Away staged activity badge will be increased from 5 to 12 stages. A new
staged activity badge will be introduced for Hikes Away.
The Young Leader scheme
will see 4 new mission badges.
