Summer Camp 2010

This year's Summer Camp will be held at Longridge from Sunday 1st to Friday 6th August. We’ve avoided Saturdays so that those of you with part-time jobs can attend. We will be camping on sites 20 and 21 by the sailing jetty. The cost will be £130 per Explorer. This includes site fees, food and activities. An equivalent commercially run activity holiday would cost at least 4 times as much. One way in which we’re able to keep the cost so low is by asking parents for help with transport. We will ask you nearer the time if you’re able to help.

Longridge is ideally situated on the banks of the River Thames just below Marlow - one of the most beautiful and sought after parts of the Thames Valley. Activities available include: camp fire, climbing, dragon boating, jacob’s ladder, launch trip, kayaking, leap of faith, open canoeing, power boating, rafting, rowing, sailing, team challenge, weir trip and much more. Also, new activities this year include: pedal go-karts, giant water orbs and giant team swing! Construction of a million pound brand new training centre with modern toilet and changing facilities started last year and will be completed by the time we visit. Other facilities onsite include The Ridge Café and free Wi-Fi.

Due to the large size of the Unit and the limited space of the site, places are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis on receipt of a non-returnable deposit of £25 per Explorer Scout and the slip below. All slips must be returned by Wednesday 31st March. The balance of £105 must be paid by Wednesday 26th May or your place will be offered to another Explorer. You must be under 18 on 6th August to attend.

Further details, including a kit list, will be issued nearer to the Camp date.

If you would like to attend download the letter, fill in the return slip and return it with your non-returnable deposit.

The Longridge training centre is run by a team of enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers and paid staff. They are approved by the BCU (British Canoe Union) and RYA (Royal Yacht Association). Each year they run a large number of courses ranging from beginner skills right through to advanced coaching and instruction.

They have well equipped accommodation for all needs, from camping to bunk house accommodation.

Longridge helps young people from all walks of life and abilities to develop water skills as well as leadership, self-discipline, confidence and respect. They rely on donations to expand and improve their site, click here to learn more about the Longridge Campaign.

Training Centre

NEW FOR 2010. In March 2009 Sport England chose to support Longridge's development plans for the centre with a £1.1million grant which enabled work on their new training centre to go ahead.

This will be a beautiful building, housing new loos, changing rooms and showers on the bottom with training rooms with river views and balconies above.

Work on this building started in October 2009 when the old rifle range was demolished.
