Summer Camp 2014

Due to the unexpected cancellation of Spleeash, this year's Summer Camp will now be held at Longridge during the same week (Saturday 2 to Saturday 9 August). We will be camping on sites 19 and 21 by the sailing jetty. The cost is still only £220 per Explorer. This includes transport, site fees, food, all activities, a special Camp t-shirt and a DVD of your adventure after we get back! We appreciate that many of you will have been to Longridge before but most of you have never been there on an Explorer Camp.

Longridge is ideally situated on the banks of the River Thames just below Marlow - one of the most beautiful and sought after parts of the Thames Valley. Activities available include: camp fire, climbing, crate stacking, dragon boating, giant swing, go karts, jacob’s ladder, kayaking, leap of faith, open canoeing, power boating, rowing, sailing, sculling, water orbs, weir trip and much more. Other facilities onsite include The Ridge Café and free Wi-Fi. We will be cooking centrally for you and will of course be hosting our annual banquet again! There will also be an offsite Shore Leave activity this year.

Last year Longridge partnered with 2 local outdoor education centres to form the new Adventure Learning Foundation (ALF). Earlier this month Longridge made the national news when it was devastated by severe flooding. A clean-up programme is now underway which we intend to offer our support to.

Places are initially limited to those who were already booked and paid on the Spleeash event. Please download the letter and return the slip no later than next Monday (3 March). If you no longer wish to attend then your Spleeash deposit is only refundable if you let us know by next week.

Further details, including a kit list, will be issued nearer to the Camp date.

Set in a unique riverside location near Marlow, Buckinghamshire, Longridge provides a range of exciting water sports and land-based activities aimed at young people of all abilities. As well as 12 acres of beautiful water meadows they even have their own island for the ultimate swallows and amazons experience. This island also gives them a sheltered backwater in which young people can experience the river.

50,000 young people will visit their world-class facilities this year and Longridge boasts a proud 50 year history and an excellent safety record. Their visitors range from schools and youth groups to individuals and corporate clients not to mention the Women’s Olympic Rowing Team!

The Longridge training centre is run by a team of enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers and paid staff. They are approved by the BCU (British Canoe Union) and RYA (Royal Yacht Association). Each year they run a large number of courses ranging from beginner skills right through to advanced coaching and instruction.

They have well equipped accommodation for all needs, from camping to bunk house accommodation.

Longridge helps young people from all walks of life and abilities to develop water skills as well as leadership, self-discipline, confidence and respect. They rely on donations to expand and improve their site, click here to learn more about the Longridge Campaign.
