Summer Camp 2008

By popular request, this year's Summer Camp will be held at Longridge from Sunday 10th to Friday 15th August. We have avoided Saturdays so that those of you with part-time jobs can attend. We will be camping on Sherriff Island. The cost will be £130 per Explorer Scout. This includes site fees, food and activities. An equivalent commercially run activity holiday would cost at least 4 times as much. One way in which we are able to keep the cost so low is by asking parents for help with transport. We will ask you nearer the time if you are able to help.

Longridge is ideally situated on the banks of the River Thames just below Marlow - one of the most beautiful and sought after parts of the Thames Valley. Activities available include: kayaking, canoeing, sailing, dragon boating, rafting, hiking, assault course and much more. Last year there were some major changes to the site. It is no longer owned by The Scout Association and is now run as a charitable trust by a new management team. The charity have exchanged on the freehold and saved Longridge for the future. The Ridge Café has been opened and the old galley has been converted into a new reception area. They won £80,000 in the People’s Millions competition to fund new facilities. This year the climbing wall will be extended to become over 9 metres high. An impressive high ropes complex will be constructed including a Jacobs Ladder and trapeze. The toilets are also due to be upgraded. For more information visit the site’s website: www.longridge-uk.org.

Due to the large size of the Unit and the limited space of the site, places are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis on receipt of a non-returnable deposit of £25 per Explorer Scout and the slip below. All slips must be returned by Wednesday 9th April. The balance of £105 must be paid by Wednesday 4th June or your place will be offered to another Explorer Scout.

Further details, including a kit list, will be issued nearer to the Camp date.

If you would like to attend download the letter, fill in the return slip and return it with your non-returnable deposit.
